Umbria Bike Tour
Welcome to the serene, green heart of Italy, where time travel has never been so easy—on our bike tour you will ride with us through vineyards, olive groves and medieval hill towns that time forgot and tourism has hardly touched. Share an espresso with local villagers in rustic piazzas where smiles are the local currency. Two separate cooking classes allow you to work alongside great chefs as you prepare your mid-day meal, with a glass of Sagrantino or Orvieto in hand, of course. Have a seat on a potter’s wheel alongside master craftsmen making world famous Deruta ceramics. In the evening, after a gourmet meal and passeggiata in the village square, share a glass of Rubino with your friends under a grape pergola in the gardens of our villas. There is no better way to end the day than in these luxurious structures, built by medieval nobles who understood how to nourish the heart, mind and spirit.
Our Umbria cycling vacation begins with a ride up to the hill town of Trevi, where our friend Marcello will introduce us to the culture of Umbrian wines and cuisine. These intimate experiences will continue throughout the week as we cycle through the legendary towns and untouched villages of Spello, Montefalco, Deruta, Torgiano and Bevagna. The culmination of our Umbria bike tour will be a ride to Assisi, where we’ll share a gourmet picnic lunch in the shade of the garden where Saint Francis wrote the first poetry in the Italian language, the Canticle of the Creatures. In Assisi we’ll have the opportunity to view the tremendous art and architecture created in homage to Francis, the town’s most famous native son, including works by some of the greatest artists of the Early Renaissance, like Giotto, Cimabue and Simone Martini.
